Married 31 years and this study in it's simplist way changed me, and in turn I see my spouse in the Light that he needs to be in. It is a wonderful way to stay encouraged and fresh in your marriage. Can take a dead relationship and make it all shiney and new again. Key to successful relationship is honoring, appreciating and accepting our differences to how God wired us.

Great book, horrible as a kindle book.

A great reference text, good photos. However the kindle version is almost unusable as you cannot efficiently search for what you are looking for. As most people do not read these books "cover to cover" the format is unacceptable. Get the hard copy or find in Vitalsource.

"I have owned the first edition of this book for several years and have found it highly useful. I cannot remember trying to look up a clinical haemostatic problem, however obscure, without finding it referenced and covered adequately. The first edition filled a true gap between enormous tomes relating to highly theoretical haemostasis and general medical or cardiology texts where many problems are not covered in adequate detail. This second edition has included additional chapters bringing some more topical issues to the forefront, however the style of delivery of information is unchanged and I do not have any perception of a drop in quality from the first to the second edition. It is well-written in very clear English and explanations of complex disorders are very clear. This would illuminate the world of haemostasis to junior doctors, nurses and laboratory staff as well as senior clinicians in other fields. This is an extremely useful book: the combination of highly practical guidance of common, clinical, haemostasis problems along with detailed explanations of more complex science, make this a book that could sit happily in most hospital departments as well as haematology laboratories."

Do not buy kindle version!

I bought the kindle for mac version of this excellent textbook. Unfortunately, kindle for mac does not support tables. Hence, all of the tables in the book CANNOT BE Read because of very small font size and no way to zoom in or increase font size of the text within table. Key information such as commercially available factors is presented in tables which one CANNOT read in the kindle for mac version. Otherwise excellent book.

This textbook has many strengths. It is our current choice for students in our own course on physical diagnosis, and its earlier editions have been our choice for more than 10 years. The overall design of the book has much to recommend it. It is probably as brief as such a book can be without being reduced to an outline format. The CD-ROM in the fourth edition is beautifully produced and filmed and is a major addition to the textbook. In fact, we cannot find any comparable resource. This book gets students excited about physical diagnosis. It also helps faculty to design lectures about physical diagnosis, since it is very well pitched at the second-year medical student. Each chapter contains a series of typical questions that students can practice asking in their own history-taking routines. The diagrams and photographs are first-rate. Appropriate draping of both male and female patients is illustrated throughout the book and discussed in the text. Several chapters and sections -- "Putting the History Together," "Putting the Examination Together," and "Putting the Data to Work" -- synthesize subject matter in a way that helps the learner. The author does not confine himself strictly to physical examination and includes the interpretation of signs and symptoms, which we think is very helpful to students. We found the chapter on cultural issues to be nicely presented and useful. The focus on various cultures illustrates the practicality of incorporating cultural issues into the evaluation of the patient. Although we embrace this book and use it widely, some areas could be improved. For example, figures Figure 10-11 and 10-12 in the chapter about the ear show a 128-Hz tuning fork being used for the Rinne and Weber test; these figures should be replaced with photographs showing a 512-Hz tuning fork, which is described in the text as the proper one. Chapter 12, about the chest, is in general very good, and Table 12-7, about adventitious sounds, fills an important need for the student. The description of breath sounds, however, should be simplified to "normal," "decreased," and "bronchial." Chapter 15, about the breast, should advocate and include a diagram of the vertical-strip method of breast examination, which is superior to the old radial method of palpation. Chapter 19, "The Musculoskeletal System," is generally well written, but we prefer a rapid screening musculoskeletal examination such as that described by George V. Lawry and his colleagues. The ideal chapter might contain both the screening examination and a more sophisticated examination from the orthopedic point of view. Chapter 20, "The Nervous System," begins appropriately with a review of neuroanatomy and physiology; our quibble is with the mental-status examination. We applaud the avoidance of the Mini-Mental State Examination, since this is probably too much of a shortcut. Nevertheless, the example of the mental-status examination given in the book is from the neurologist's point of view, and it would be better if it were presented from the psychiatric perspective. The major omissions from the neurologic examination are the appearance, behavior, attitude, thought processes and content, and suicidal ideation of the patient. The section about coma could be enriched by an explanation of the Glasgow Coma Scale, which is widely used by neurosurgeons and emergency medicine physicians. Not only would this textbook be a wise purchase for the second-year medical student, it is also a useful reference for the practicing physician. The material in the book is well presented and easy to read and to reference. Despite the few exceptions noted above, it is the most accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensive textbook of physical diagnosis available today. Amid the mounting debate about the relevance of the physical examination, this book serves as a good reminder of its fundamental role in the practice of medicine, even in 2003. Holly J. Great introduction to the physical exam.

I think it is the best "first text" on the physical exam out there. The pros to choosing this book over the others are:

1. Targeted specifically to medical students: This book takes nothing for granted and starts with the basics. From principles of a good interview to minutia of the physical exam such as proper draping of a patient, this book covers everything a medical student needs to know for acing Step 2 CS.
2. Organization: Each chapter covers basic anatomy relevant to the physical exam, common signs and symptoms a patient may present with, a step-by-step approach to the physical exam, and clinicopathologic correlations. Each chapter also closes with sample write-ups for that particular part of the exam to give you an idea how to put such information in your note.
3. For the common symptoms, a list of questions are presented that are helpful in gathering more information from the patient's chief complaint. Knowing these is essential for the real-world as well as Step 2 CS. Edit: The Patient History: Evidence-Based Approach (Lange Medical Books) is an outstanding book that goes into much more detail in this area that I would recommend you at least check out from your library.
4. Pictures: each chapter has tons of pictures, most in full color. The pictures illustrate anatomy, follow the step-by-step physical exam, and demonstrate TONS of pathology. There are probably 1000 or more high-quality pictures and they are certainly the highlight of the book. No other book that I am aware of has such great pictures.
5. Videos of Dr. Swartz demonstrating the complete physical exam: Not everything is shown as another reviewer mentioned, but the basics are.
6. Chapters, as well as videos, that deal with specific patient populations such as the elderly, children, and the pregnant patient.

The book, however, is only an introduction and focuses more on the "how" than the "why." After mastering this book, if you are interested in more information on physical diagnosis, you could try DeGowin's Diagnostic Examination, Ninth Edition, Physical Diagnosis Secrets: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access, or Sapira's Art and Science of Bedside Diagnosis. Each of these have their own strengths and weaknesses but they are all excellent and I would recommend you read the reviews or look at them yourself before you buy them.

It's terrific. Lots of background information from old and new ...

We did this as a small group women Bible study. It was very insightful. There was quite bit of background information from old and new testament concentrating on the Tabernacle. The leaders of our group lead us into extra study to share with the group on the places the Isrealites went, and where the ark of the covenant finally ends up. Beth Moore studies really help you to understand the historical perspective as well as how the Old Testament is a foreshadowing of Jesus and who He is.
The video that accompanies the study was just as insightful. Our group really enjoyed this study and yours will too.

Amazing! Worth Studying Over and Over Again

Beth Moore's updated Bible study, "A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place," is a mixture of the material she published 10 years ago and the lessons she's learned since. The exercises are slightly changed - not all for the better. Typos and poor editing make me long for the first member book.

However, as a complete package, the updated video teaching is typical Beth - energetic, thought-provoking, and full of wisdom and humor. You absolutely cannot complete this study and NOT be changed!
