Excellent resource for DPT Student

I have just begun using this text in my DPT program this past week, and it has already come in quite handy. It is a great addition/alternative to the Kendall manual muscle testing text because Hislop includes so many helpful illustrations and clear descriptions of both patient and PT positioning. Our professors have suggested several small edits to the techniques described in the book to allow better body mechanics for the PT, but I am glad to have this text as a thorough guide as I begin to learn manual muscle testing technique.

Good but... Quality

Good: This book has very helpful text and pictures. It breaks down the grades of manual muscle testing as well as gives you some information on specific muscles.
Bad: the pages are very thin and flimsy, ill probably tear one soon, because they're already bent. The binding is not ideal- a hard cover but an exposed plastic binding. Hopefully they upgrade the quality of the physical book and pages next edition.

A useful review of basic pathology

The 7th addition of Robbins Basic pathology is several hundred pages shorter than the previous edition. Most of what was removed was basic physiology and anatomy review. I found that while it's good to have a shorter textbook, the loss of these subjects made for less interesting reading. The 7th edition also adds quite a bit more molecular biology and molecular genetics, reflecting chnages in the study of pathology. Overall, it's an excellent pathology review book and will be very useful for medical students and path residents who want to review. The main flaw of the book is an unavoidable one. Many important areas of pathology are covered in a single paragraph and much detail is lacking. However, the authors had to do this to keep the book relatively short (only 700 pages). I recomment this book highly as a good way to begin studying pathology.

Great Resource for Medical Students

Basic Robbins is written for medical students and contains much more succinct and high-yield information than Big Robbins. I would use this book in conjunction with my course lecture notes or other materials. If you know what this book contains, it will give you a leg up on Step 1. I've noticed that many of the things written in Goljan's Rapid Review Path and First Aid come directly out of this book.

A great review for AP boards

This text is very concise compared with Robbins Pathologic Basis of Disease. Both are excellent, but this "smaller" book actually has everything you need for the general pathology part of the written AP boards. I am specifically referring to chapters 1-9 with 10 and 11. It needs to be read with near total comprehension, but the color graphics are excellent aids. All other systemic pathology topics should be covered in a surgical pathology text, of course.

Cruel and unusual

Like the foreshadowing in this story. It's something I didn't notice in the previous books. This story/book is well-written and one you don't want to put down. I spent the day reading this book and totally enjoyed my day.
I was a Corrections Officer, Guard if you will. I started when we were Peace Officer status I very much realize not all of the criminals are behind bars and though I loathe to admit it some of the 'Guards' are criminals as well.

Oh this was a good book! I have finished the series now (out of order lol!) and this was my last one. Very very good. Not my favorite in the series, but a very good read. I'm so sad that I have read them all and have to move on from Dr Kay Scarpetta. Would highly highly recommend these books to anyone. I'm 18 but I feel as long as your child doesn't get scared easily and can handle the murder aspects middle school would be an appropriate to start reading these.

As with most of her books I have read, this one is a good read. I am disappointed that this brand new book came with the first two chapters unattached to the spine however. Makes for an annoying time reading and the possibility of passing it on to someone else are diminished.

Henry Blackaby's study would help a lot of churches understand why people are leaving the church in droves. He teaches you that God wants a personal relationship with YOU....yes, YOU...not about how much stuff you can do for God, or how to do yet another 'business seminar' on how to fill the 'pews 'n plates'.....He teaches you that your 'JOB' is to know God, and how much He wants to know about YOU. Then your eyes are opened, and you can see where God is working and you go and join Him in HIS work....NOT the other way around....If I could, I would give it 10 stars!

I participated in bible study group using Experiencing God Study book about 15 years ago and it really changed my relationship with God. Lots of what I have learned are still sticking with me.
I was happy to discover this Kindle edition, so that now it's on my phone and I can revisit this book any time I want.
If you have not read this book, I highly recommend it.
It reveals who our God is, what He is doing in our lives, how we can have a closer relationship with Him.
God is God, He is in control all the time. He can do all things and yet, he pursue a relationship with you. Not because He needs you to do something for Him (Remember, He can do all things!) but because He loves you and wants you to have a life that is meaningful and eternal.
When He calls you to do something and you don't, it's you who are missing out.
If you want to know who God is and who you are in His eyes, read this!

Great book and wonderful read. Plus, convenient.

I bought this as part of a worship program for a youth summer camp where I had the staff focus on their relationship with God. They in turn were able to share this with the kids that they took care of. I loved being able to share this with the young staff and I found that even 14 year-olds enjoy this book and can have an amazing take away. Plus, by having this version in digital format it made it much easier to take around with me each day. Great book and wonderful read. Plus, convenient.

Great Group Study

Explicit Gospel DVD based Bible study is an excellent product and will not disappoint. Matt Chandler is a gifter teacher/speaker but more importantly he has something vital to share with the American church. By most accounts, the gosple is understood by most Christians to be simply forgiveness of sin and a promised glory in Heaven (no small thing mind you). But as the Spirit is reminding the American church via Matt and others, there's so much more to the gosple. Matt in six lessions addresses the most significant, past, present, and furure personal consequence of the gosple. Again, Explicit Gospel will not disappoint you and will grow your understanding for His glory.Having used many DVD based studies I would give this a 9 out of 10.

We are using this Study in a small group setting. The Lord is doing incredible things in our midst as we are led to understand the realities of the Gospel.

Great communicator!!!

Chandler has a great way of communicating. My 22 year olds are really engaged and also the men I have taken on retreats were really into the substance of the DVD. I have not done the actual study, just watched the DVDs, thrown out some questions and see God work. Good stuff.

Dr. David Platt, President of the International Mission Board, is deeply devoted to Christ and His Word. David’s first love in ministry is making disciples, sharing, showing, and teaching God’s Word in everyday life. He has traveled extensively to serve alongside church leaders throughout the United States and around the world.

A life-long learner, David has earned two undergraduate and three advanced degrees. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (A.B.J.) from the University of Georgia, and a Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Theology (Th.M) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He previously served at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary as Dean of Chapel and Assistant Professor of Expository Preaching and Apologetics, Staff Evangelist at Edgewater Baptist Church in New Orleans, and eight years as the Senior Pastor of The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, AL. David has written several books, Radical, Radical Together, Follow Me and most recently Counter Culture (to be released February 2015). He also has a radio program on Moody Radio, Radical with David Platt, that can be heard around the world and features past sermons and teaching from David’s ministry.

David founded Radical (Radical.net), a ministry devoted to serving churches and disseminating disciple-making resources toward the end that the gospel might be made known in all nations.

Platt brings the message in an awesome, staight-forward way like James in the Bible.
This study is a great pick to get your toes stepped on to really listen to what Jesus commands and then obey.

Another excellent Immunology Text to have

This immunology textbook has been what many bioloy students are waiting for. Among other well-known texts, this book is the thinest. However, the materails contained are so comprehensive that it can be used as a regular textbook. There are not many illustrations in this book as you usually see in a typical immunology book but these group of authors have done a nice job describing many difficult topics ( such as immunoglobulin gene rearrangement, B and T cell maturation, complement, Hypersensitivity etc.) easier and clearer by using simple language. Moreover,this new edition has been updated with very recent knowledge of immunology. If you anyhow don't like Kuby or Janeways' books, this book can be another excellent one.

Excellent intro, the way a textbook should be

My only immunology background was in medical school in the early 80s. I bought this book to try to get a basic grasp on what immunology is about now, 20 years later. This book is excellent for that. As other reviewers have commented, the material is well organized and illustrated. The illustrations are numerous enough and detailed enough to almost form an outline in their own right.
While there is considerable repetition, I consider that this is one of the best features of the book for a newcomer such as I. The repetition is clearly very intentional, not the result of disorganization or sloppy editing. Rather it is enough to let the reader grasp both the forest and the trees. It also lets you, to some extent, read from any section of the book without being totally lost if you don't remember the previous material.

Abbas got me past my qualifying exams in immuno grad sch...

Target audience: Any undergrad or grad student in life sciences. Little background needed beyond the basics of genetics, what is a cell etc. A bit too much for the typical MD course; try Abbas's Basic Immuno. It is a reference for basic immuno concepts, not a reference for every last detail in modern immunology (for that try Paul's Immuno).
What Abbas does: After reading this book (or at least skimming the pictures) you will be able to read the abstracts for immuno journals; you'll be able to say "I vaguely understand why the heck this journal article is important/furthers knowledge of immunology".
Pros: The most up-to-date (more recent than Janeway). A proven favorite of grad students. The pictures are easy-to-follow and demostrate all the main points. In fact, it may be better not to read much of the detail filled text, if you just want general knowledge. Little text boxes that highlight a technique, a historical development (e.g. how they cloned T Cell receptor). Nice section in the back on common lab techniques. Nice chapters on clinical correlates (human disease).
Cons: It is not comprehensive (like Paul's Immunology) nor is it meant to be comprehensive. The signal transduction is hopelessly out of date (all textbooks will fall behind rapid developments in sig transduction).
Geeky immuno nit-picking: Some controversial topics are presented as gospel (for example, anergy and the 2-signal hypothesis, which has not been convincingly demonstrated in vivo "natural system"; if you don't know what i'm talking about, don't worry about it).
