Hard to listen to

How would you deal with a sister/daughter who was the "star" of the family on the fast track to the olympics suddendly having a heart attach and being pronounced brain dead? This book explores one families approach and some of it isn't pretty. The mom is in denial, the dad scarcely can have an opinion, the brother is almost absent and the sister can't seem to get the guts to speak her mind to anyone. The characters are mostly annoying. The woman who reads the audio version has the MOST annoying voice I have ever had the displeasure of listening to. The book dragged on and on with all sorts of sub-plots which added little to the basic story and having to listen to some 8 hours of a grinding voice was not very plesant. Don't know what I liked less - the book or the voice!

"The book maximises on presentation by using clear headings and sub headings, good quality colour plates, diagrams and tables. In common with many other Elsevier books, it’s attractively presented. The authors are keen for the reader to learn about the advances in the field and have included details of these breakthroughs. The pathology textbook I bought as a student was just under half the price of this one and was left mostly on the shelf being largely unreadable with monochrome only illustrations and no extra features. That makes this book good value for money I would say!

Excelent book!!! I absolutely love it!!!

I like this book a lot! It has the main information about basic pathology as it title says... I prefer to read it in english cause the traduction on spanish aren't so good but I really like it, it has an excelent lever for medical students and it's very interactive with images and figures that make it so easy to read...

The information it well organized so as the pictures and the free access online system give me so much advantages cause I can read it anywhere I am from my ipod

Has a little more detail than you need in med school, but not so much that it's overwhelming like the thicker Robbins book. It's a good balance and pretty easy to read with lots of helpful pictures.

Fantastic fundamentals for fathers

I welcomed my first child into the world a few months ago and spend much of those first few weeks worrying that I wasn't going to be able to be the father my child needs me to be. Thankfully I came across this study, which has provided me with excellent and practical fatherhood advice. Mark Merrill and Tony Dungy provided an awesome foundation for me to build upon and I encouraged me to be an All Pro Dad. I just celebrated three months as a father and I seriously don't know where I would be as both a father and husband without the foundation this study laid out for me.

help other men while helping yourself

As a father of 4, the oldest just graduating college and the youngest in elementary school, this study has given me tips on how to take it to a whole new level. A great shot in the arm to my fatherhood journey. The leaders guide is well laid out, and doesn't overwhelm you with "to do's". Very little prep involved, but lots of payoff both personally and for the other guys going thru the study with me.

Great fatherhood challenge

My kids are both teenagers (or at least nearly so), and the challenges of being the best father I can be seem to be ramping up in the teen years. This study was a great reminder of some very important truths for fathers. It challenged me regularly to be more intentional about the conversations I'm havinng with my wife and kids and the lessons I am teaching my kids (both verbally and behaviorally).

This is a comprehensive complete atlas of Head and Neck Surgery involving diagnosis, etiology, treatment, and complication management. A large part of the 2 volume set is dedicated to the operative approaches in the entire field of otorhinolaryngology. The strongest area of the books is the discussion of skull base tumors. Line drawings, IO Photos, useful tables of differentials is incorporated throughout the text. This series is over 1600 pages. Staging and classification of diseases is especially informative. I do recommend this book from novices, to residents in ENT, to more advanced Head and Neck surgeons as a desk reference.

Excellent fast and detailed source for refreshing the memory or for initial study. I practice General Otolaryngology and don't do all procedures frequently. This resource is an excellent source for frequent use. The online back-up is also a good value for many circumstances.

It was what I needed for a great price

I got this for a great price. Just seeing the assessment and the wording of the findings was worth the price of coffee this book/CD cost me. As a student that is one area that I have always been curious about.

It has deliberate medication errors that require a little bit of digging into the charts to find.

The idea of a virtual hospital program can be taken so much farther than this program. This is very basic but for a cheap price it does allow you to dig into the charts. You can make decisions based on patients S/S and interactions with you. Do a little bit of drug review and preparation.

Wow for the Story. What the Heck for the Characters.

This book is both engaging and infuriating. If I were to write 30 words or less that sum up my feelings about the series so far they would go something like this.

***Never have I read a series that I like so much based mostly on worldbuilding, plot and cultures while disliking or struggling with most of the characters.***

The continuing fight against The Dark One or Lord of Chaos and his chosen is really well done. I love all the details of the different cultures and the histories of how they were shaped that way. I think some of the reveals that are doled out here and there are masterfully in how they are planned and played out. The surprises that come in ever book again and again surprise me like they are supposed to and yet I can see the hints along the way. Overall the story and world building are great and yet the characters infuriate me 73.89% of the time.

Let’s just hit on the female characters first. There were a few that started off really good in the first few books and I thought they had a ton of potential but in this book I only like Min, Avienda and the Maidens the rest of the women spend their time hiding, making ridiculous statements, infighting and a plethora of other eyerolling actions that just make me cringe. Nynaeve who I adored in the first few books spent the majority of this one either pulling her braid, avoiding facing ANYTHING or just saying ridiculous things. *sadface* I loved her and now she is just a shadow of what she could have been. The same goes for Elayne, Egwene and Faile for that matter.

Rand has the worst friends ever. I think the only people truly on his side all the time are the Maidens. I get that they don’t understand and are not sure how to deal with a man who can channel but Perrin and Mat were his best friends growing up and knew him before he was The Dragon Reborn. You would at least think that they would throw a little trust his way. As is it almost seems like each is ready to bolt the first chance they get and neither seems to have much trust for him. Poor Rand he is really mostly alone.

But let’s get to my favorite moments in this one.

ღ Loial finding out his mother and Erith are searching for him. Since he needs a wife to take him into hand and get him settled.

ღ - Perrin finally meeting his in laws and finding they are just as hard and manipulative as his wife can be. They were funny though and it might have been my favorite happier moment this book

ღ - Min getting her shot at Rand. It is about time and I love the way she has decided to go about it.

ღ - Avienda and Elayne meeting up again after the Avienda spent some time with Rand….Man you would think that guy was Casanova instead of a woolhead that has no clue what to do with women.

ღ - The big battle at the end and why Perrin had to take the fight to them. It was intense the the buildup was supurb.

ღ - Egwene getting pulled into a very handsome mans dreams about her and *cough* getting her groove on *cough*

Honestly it is a good thing that the story is really good or else the stubbornness and obstinacy of characters would really deter from everything else. There is some set up for some things to go either really right (doubtfully) or horribly wrong (more likely) in the next book and I’m really looking forward to that.

I was a little sad that we didn’t get to see Lan in this book except for a moment. The Warder was one of the characters that I really loved in the beginning but he is getting less and less page time and I almost forgot about him completely except Nynaeve is also wondering what has become of him.

All and all these while long are pretty entertaining stories and I have really enjoyed taking on one book a month of this fantasy series.

This is where I like to say...the grind begins here! lol Book 5 and on to book 10 felt like they were missing an editor some where. I feel like they should have given the books over at this time to a different editor to be rid of the reiterations and to help with getting the pace of the books moving more consistently. But what is done, is done. I love this series but it was brutal every time I reread it.

Beginning to slow down, but still good

This is a difficult book to rate. How to rate something that's really good, but also really too long? I guess four stars is the best one for it, since it doesn't really stretch its values or imply that there aren't any flaws.

The high points: Excellent characterization, great and detailed worldbuilding, awesomely funny scene where Rand researches his heritage, good writing and dialogue, intense conclusion, extremely awesome Asha'man, Mat Cauthon in general, and Rand al'Thor totally kicked Aes Sedai ass, here.

The low points: Plot moves along a bit slower than it should, quite a bit more detail and filler material than there strictly needs to be, the final few chapters feel a bit rushed, romance pops out of nowhere and is ill-explained, Min is not nearly good enough for Rand, the portrayal of female characters is still pretty bad, and the sections with Morgase and the Whitecloaks were boring as heck.

Lord of Chaos is good, but not as good as the last three books. For those curious, Rand and Egwene get the majority of the chapters to themselves, and there are a total of 45 PoV characters in this book (no, I'm not kidding), the majority of whom get only a brief spot to themselves.

If you liked the previous five books, you'll probably like Lord of Chaos, though you should keep in mind that this is not the kind of series to read if all you're interested in is immediate action and gratification. The Wheel of Time requires definite patience to get through and appreciate. Some skimming might be prudent in this novel, given all the meandering points of view from enough people to populate a small town.
