A Good Series for Men on Fatherhood and Leadership

This is an updated series from Men's Fraternity. It is really well done and the material that it contains is helpful for frame Manhood, its context and a biblical perspective. JB from Fellowship Memphis is deeply insightful and has clearly spent a long time developing a theology of Manhood. At times it feels a little chest-beating and knuckle dragging. What makes this series successful is its desire to cling closely to the madate of scripture for manhood.

This six part series is great for anyone looking to develop their men's ministry at church, or for guys small groups.

The Men are Ready for Authentication

The Men's Group at our church in Alaska loved this series. The series is multicultural in approach and multi generational as well. The art and graphics and superb for its day. It has relevant history early on in the series which sparked great discussion between men in a very new group.

excellent programs. The 33 Series is watered down and ...

Don't do this series. Quest for Authentic Manhood and Winning at Work and Home are 5-Star...excellent programs. The 33 Series is watered down and attempts to be cool...but its not. They attempted to recreate Rob Lewis's outstanding teachings into 25-30 minute DVDs, but after all the back-slapping and telling you how good the material your about to see is, you only get 12 minutes of real teaching time - which doesn't compare to the original series. I lead 30 men through this after doing the other Rob Lewis DVD series mentioned above and they all felt the same way...it was a major letdown and they wanted to find new Rob Lewis material. - PJ Huizenga

not worth the price

I was really disappointed with the price of this book. The content is little and in the DVD there is only one long operation. It lacks a broader coverage in the urologic robotic field, specially partial nephrectomy. I almost returned the book when I got it, but since I opened the DVD package, it made it impossible to do so. That is one of the disadvantages of choosing a book without actually seeing it in your hands. If I knew better I would have certainly chosen a different title in the area.

About the Author
P.D. James was born in Oxford in 1920 and educated at Cambridge High School. Widely acknowledged as "the greatest contemporary writer of classic crime" (The London Sunday Times), she has written twenty books and been awarded major prizes for her crime writing in Great Britain, America, Italy, and Scandinavia. After 30 years in the civil service, including a senior position in the Police and Criminal Justice Departments of Great Britain's Home Office, she held a series of distinguished cultural and literary offices, among them Governor of the BBC, on the boards of the Arts Council and British Council and as a magistrate in London. She is the lifelong President of the Society of Authors. She was awarded the OBE in 1983 and created Baroness James of Holland Park in 1991. In 1999 she was given the Mystery Writers of America Grandmaster Award. She has honorary doctorates from seven British universities. James is the widow of a doctor and has two children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Murder In An Unrelentingly Dark Mood

P.D. James is reknowned for her ability to combine the psychological novel with the classic murder mystery--but now and then her emphasis on psychology so overshadows her plot that it becomes hard to describe the work as a murder mystery per se. Such is the case with THE BLACK TOWER, a profoundly bleak novel set in an isolated home for "the young disabled," a euphemistic term for victims of slowly progressing but ultimately fatal muscular disease.
The story begins when Inspector Dalgliesh, himself recovering from both a serious illness and a crisis of confidence, is invited to Toynton Grange by the home's elderly chaplin; something is amiss, and the chaplin would welcome Dalgliesh's advice. But when Dalgliesh arrives, he finds his old friend has died a few days earlier. With little to go on except his own suspicion, Dalgliesh slowly, grudingly begins to investigate... and finds one suspicious death after another.
The premise is a classic set up, but in this novel James places Dalgliesh more as an observer of the inevitable than as a detective, and when the solution arrives it does so more by intuition and assumption than by logical deduction. But if this element is weak, the overall novel is very strong: moody to the point of despair, and peopled with painfully pitiful characters, THE DARK TOWER is perhaps one of James' more memorable novels in terms of style alone. Flawed, yes; recommended nonetheless. But be forewarned: you may need prescription medication to escape the sense of depression the novel creates.

The one book for CT imaging that every R1 needs. Despite being quite comprehensive and appropriately detailed, this book is a pretty quick read. And despite the information being CT based, the lessons learned can be transferred to other imaging modalities.

This is a very concise but good book about body CT. Downside is that it does not provide pictures of all pathology that is described and normally only provides a single image for most diagnosis. The text is succinct, allowing it to be read quickly and includes some salient points. It by no means covers each topic in exhaustive detail. The advantage of this book is that the brief, informative text and clear pictures allow you to understand a wide variety of pathology seen in body CT studies. I am confident I will need to upgrade to something with more backbone before I finish residency.

Excellent choice for first rotation

This is a great book for radiologists beginning their first rotation on body CT. A number of reviews mistakenly stated this book was a repeat of the Brant & Helms material. While this may be true to a certain extent for the major pathological conditions, the critics overlooked two significant differences. For one, Body CT takes pains to explain basic concepts that are not elaborated upon in the Brant & Helms series. Additionally, Body CT provides additional examples of normal images & variants that you will not see illustrated in Brant & Helms. To me, this book provided the details missing in Brant & Helms (or spread throughout the different chapters). Together, the two books complemented one another perfectly.

My one knock on the book is the poor quality material. The critics got this part right so don't expect the book to hold up well.
